Constitutional Question

Is it just me, or is anybody else out there wondering ... Does it not seem as though the politicians who spend so much time talking about a living Constitution in this country are in fact the very ones that appear to be trying to kill it?

This may be a distinction without a difference, I think they just want to remake the meanings of the Constitution to fit their agenda, even if those meanings have nothing to do with the words as written.

There is no greater challenge to the future of the United States than the appointment of Justices to the Supreme Court.

As many have said, much smarter than me, the high court can make changes that would never stand up to a vote!

Roman,

I used to believe as you do. I am now convinced however that the Constitution will not be brought down by the Courts, but by an increasing government bureaucracy which "regulates" our protections away.

It is the power grab by Executive branch (under both Democratic and Republican leadership) which subverts the Constitution, and likewise controls the Attorney General's office in such a way that these usurpations never reach Supreme Court review.

We are often so caught up in the "Separation of Church and State" (which is not actually in the Constitution BTW), that we seem to have forgotten about the "Separation of Powers".

Our living or dynamic Constitution has served us fairly well for over 200 hundred years; even with the few exceptions over the years, it has done what it was meant to do.

Yes, however it seems to me that an occasional revolution may be needed to restore it back to its original intent.

Sometimes it takes a Constitutional crisis to wake us up out of our complacency. . .
